OUR PURPOSE: FOUR REASONS WE EXIST

purpose

There is nothing more fundamental to the Christian faith than the message that God loves us, come what may. This is what the word ‘grace’ means; God’s gratuitous acceptance of each one of us. It is revelation of this love for us that motivates us to fulfil what Jesus described as the first and greatest commandment; which is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind. (Matthew 22 verses 36-38)

Christians were originally called “people of the way,” –people who followed the example of Jesus in making love a way of life. They took seriously the second greatest commandment that Jesus added in verse 39 of the same passage in Matthew; “And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself.” God’s love for us is our motivation to love our neighbours. In fact, the heart and soul of all true religion is this; to love and be loved.

John writes what must be one of the most inclusive statements in scripture;” Those who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.” 1 John 4:16. It is with this inclusive thinking that we welcome everyone.

We see this outworked by:

LOVING GOD
Above all else we believe our purpose is to love God because we are loved by him. Everything else in life flows from this. We are designed to know God and have a relationship with Him.

LOVING THE CHURCH
We aim to follow the example of Jesus in how he loved His friends and His people by loving, serving, caring, giving and building a genuine community. We believe that God has called his Church to be a picture of what His new family looks like, as an example to the world.

LOVING THE COMMUNITY
We are called to love the places and people where God gives us influence: a street, a home, a workplace, a school or a nation. Jesus sent His church out on a mission to love, serve, witness and testify concerning the Kingdom of God. We believe that through the Holy Spirit God will empower our words and actions.

LOVING THE NATIONS
We believe that we are called to take this message to other nations. That may mean reaching the different nationalities who have come to us, supporting others who have moved to other nations,  being involved missionally in other nations as a church and for some, it may involve following the call of God to move and go to another nation.
